Water Leadership Academy
The Water Leadership Academy provides a behind-the-scenes look at how Consolidated Utility District plans, manages, and maintains the infrastructure that supports the continued growth of Rutherford County. Through engaging sessions and an exclusive site visit, academy members explore key topics such as water treatment, system operations, and long-term planning — gaining insights into how our work enables residential and commercial development in one of the nation’s fastest-growing counties.
The five-session Water Leadership Academy covers the following topics …
• Overview of Consolidated Utility District: Our history and planning for the future
• Resource stewardship: Our financial philosophy, methods of accountability, and how we serve the needs of Rutherford County without using tax dollars
• Water in Action: A tour of our award-winning K. Thomas Hutchinson Water Treatment Plant
• The Hidden Network: An exploration of often-invisible technologies and our cybersecurity efforts
• Our Flourishing County: How our Capital Improvement Plan addresses our present and future needs – as well as the vital role played by our Engineering Department
The Class of 2026 included local officials who serve Murfreesboro and Rutherford County, as well as elected representatives from the Middle Tennessee area.
Sessions typically run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with lunch provided. All sessions are held at Consolidated Utility District, except for one off-site visit to our treatment plant.
