CUD Water Disconnection Policy
Because Consolidated Utility District (CUD) is the public water utility for Rutherford County and because we take our ongoing mission of providing safe, reliable water every day seriously, we believe it is reasonable to expect customers to send their monthly payments within the billing timeframe each month. We offer several ways for customers to provide payment.
In the event water utility service is disconnected by CUD for non-payment, there will be a minimum fee of $50 (fifty dollars) assessed to the account. Once the account has been flagged for disconnect, the disconnect fee will remain applied to the customer account and will not be removed. A customer requesting CUD to re-connect same-day service for payments received after 3:00 p.m. will be required to pay an overtime charge of $100 (one hundred dollars).
Services will not be re-connected after 7: 00 p.m. Service re-connection requests after 3:00 p.m. that are not agreeable to the overtime charge or that request reconnection after 7:00 p.m. will be processed the next normal business day.
TERMS OF DISCONTINUANCE OF SERVICE AND REINSTATEMENT
Discontinuance of service by CUD does not release the customer from payment for service already received or from liability from payments due under the minimum bill provisions or other provisions of the customer’s contract.
CUD will not be liable for any loss or damage resulting from the discontinuance of service.
The customer is responsible for payment of all charges. That customer is also responsible for any rules or policy violations that occur regarding the utility service to that property.
In the event any customer fails to pay any utility fee or charge, the customer/property owner shall pay all costs of collection including court costs and reasonable attorney’s fees incurred by CUD in collecting such sums.
CUD has the right to refuse service to an applicant or to any member of an applicant’s household who is living at the same address whenever such person(s) is/are delinquent on any payment to the utility or had his or her service discontinued because of a violation of the regulations or policies.
Service will be reinstated only during regular working hours, Monday through Friday, except in the case of an emergency.
